The 1970 excavations at Broxmouth Hillfort, located near Dunbar in East Lothian, were some of the largest and most complete excavations to ever take place on a Scottish hillfort.
As the excabation was never officially published, the University of Bradford has recently been provided with a wealth of information and notes from the original excavators in an attempt to do so. Among these were some hand-drawn interpretations of various features. These were then made available to ArchaeoFX, which were used for the basis of a reconstruction of one of the hillforts many entrance gates.
Expect more to come, as the project is funded by Historic Scotland and will run until mid-2011.
